Birkenstock and Chaco have been beloved brands for many years. One question that is often asked, however, is what the proper care and cleaning is for these shoes and how to keep them in the best shape possible. Those who wear Chaco and Birkenstock will wear them anywhere while doing just about anything—from rock hopping and running errands, to participating in everyday life events. All of these activities can be hard on shoes as time goes on and make them harder to clean! Below we will discuss the best ways to care for and clean these shoes, and how to keep them in great condition no matter where life takes you!
When it comes to Chaco sandals the cleaning process is fairly simple. Wash your sandals with a load of laundry on a gentle cycle using a mild detergent or baking soda with cold water. Make sure you don’t add any bleach because this can be damaging to the straps! After your sandals come out of the washer leave them to air dry. Do not place sandals near a heat source because high heat has been known to cause damage to these shoes. It’s also incredibly important to “floss” your Chaco straps because, over the course of wear, dirt and grime can get in these channels where the straps enter and exit the midsole This can create excess odor and cause your straps to stick. By squirting fabric softener into the strap slots and pulling the straps, you will be able to remove the offending grit. The care and cleaning protocol for Birkenstock is a bit different from that of Chaco. Like many materials found in footwear and apparel, the cork footbed of Birkenstock can be damaged by exposure to concentrated heat or extreme temperatures. So it’s best to keep them away from direct sunlight for extended periods of time! To keep your Birkenstock footwear fresh, spray the entire footbed with Birkenstock Cleaner & Refresher and wipe away excess moisture and dirt with a cloth. Brush the suede material and footbed with a nubuck/suede brush to restore the shoes original condition! To protect the upper leather part of the shoe, apply Birkenstock Water & Stain to remove dirt. Overall, the best way to clean off Birkenstock is by simply wiping them clean with a damp cloth. If there is a stubborn stain, try soap and water! At Abbadabba’s we pride ourselves on carrying brands that are durable and great quality. Both Chaco and Birkenstock footwear are incredibly made, and when caring for and cleaning them properly, they are sure to be the best shoes in your closet!
